| I need your help. When I started to write the story of Marvin Early, I decided almost immediately to self-publish. Besides being a do-it-yourself kind of guy, I wanted to get my book to print as soon as possible, minus the process of finding an agent, submitting query letters, and hoping that my novel would make it through the slush pile and become one of the 2% of manuscripts that aren't rejected by publishers. I also like having creative control and the final say-so on the project, and my publisher, iUniverse, has been great. But independence has its disadvantages. There aren't any marketing dollars or cash advances, all promotion is self-promotion, and it's a little more difficult to get bookstores to stock your title. A lot of awards that I'd like to compete for immediately disqualify self-published books. And this is where you come in. I need you to help get the word out about Marvin and The Man. For all the advances in communication technology, books are still sold pretty much the same way they always have been: word of mouth. So tell people. Ask your local bookstore to carry it. Purchase a copy to donate to your local library so that people who can't afford it will still have access. Use it for your book clubs. And I've got a postcard campaign going-- I''ll send you blank postcards, you send them to people you know--and I'm interested in doing much more. I really believe in the book I've put together. I think it's good. Maybe I'm being a little optimistic, but I think that it might make the world a little bit better. I believe in its potential. But I don't want to write a good book that no one reads, and I can't do it without you. So please, if you believe in the message of the book, help me to get it in the hands of as many people as possible. Contact me here if you're interested. Sincere thanks, Randall |
